Borneo: Where the forest listens and life reveals itself

Borneo is where you slow down instinctively. Where footsteps soften, voices lower, and attention sharpens. In one of the world’s oldest rainforests, life unfolds quietly in rustling canopies, river bends, and encounters that ask you to pause. This is not wildlife as spectacle, but as relationship. As you move through jungle trails and river corridors, connection deepens with nature, with cultures that live alongside it, and with each other.

The Apricous way

We plan slowly. We build in rest. Every experience is layered with warmth, flexibility, and care — so parents stay relaxed and children stay curious.

01

Designed for the Rainforest’s Rhythm

Days are shaped around light, weather, and wildlife movement. This allows families to slow down together and experience the forest as it unfolds, naturally.

02

Ethical Wildlife Encounters

We choose experiences that prioritise observation over interaction. Children learn to watch, wait, and respect — understanding that the forest isn’t a backdrop, but a living system.

03

Local Naturalists Who Work Beautifully with Children

Our guides are trained not just in ecology, but in storytelling and pacing — helping children stay curious without overwhelming them.

04

Curated for Understanding, Not Display

Moments are shaped to encourage curiosity and care with nature as the Guide as well. We design journeys that let the rainforest reveal itself — without forcing encounters or rushing moments.

Experiences & Bonds

Nature@Sepilok

The hub of wildlife conservation, Sandakan is a great place to start our journey into one of the oldest rainforests in the World. The flora and fauna in the Borneo jungle is an endless mystery and even today no one can claim to have seen it all. Unwind and enjoy a welcome dinner surrounded by the chants and sounds of the jungle.

Wildlife Calling

Orangutan, Sun Bear encounters start at Sepilok and we hope to continue the experiences as we step deeper into the Borneo rainforest. The banks of the Kinabatangan River make for some great viewing: holiday with orangutans, pygmy elephants, crocodiles, proboscis monkeys, macaques, hornbills and myriad of birds living in the region.

Head-hunters of the land

If you thought you had seen it all, surprises await as we drive to the foothills of Mount Kinabalu. Get a kick of authenticity as you share home with the local community. Spend the evening exchanging stories with the elders of Kadazan –Dusun tribe.  The Headhunters of Borneo and their Bobohizan, a High Priestess, medicine woman and medium may teach you a trick or two!

Can you survive the Jungle?

Now that you are fully acclimatized to the sounds of the jungle, it’s time to live by your wits alone. Can you learn to survive on plants and the riches of nature surrounding you? Give your child company as both of you navigate the complexities of the rain forest in your Borneo adventure travel! Learn about medicinal benefits of the plants and local traditions that work with nature to support survival.

Where Every Day is
Designed for You

Walking together along raised canopy paths, high above the forest floor.
Parent and child pause, look outward, and take in the scale of the rainforest. Scanning the riverbanks together, you may spot proboscis monkeys that is found only in Borneo — their presence turning patience into shared excitement.

Quiet forest walks led by naturalists who help children notice, not chase the movement in the leaves, calls overhead, the rhythm of life unfolding without interruption. Thoughtfully guided encounters with orangutans in their natural habitat. Unstructured nature play near lodges and riverbanks, building, imagining, exploring moments that allow children to lead and parents to follow, without agenda.
